A stunning ambient release. brantly It's like having noise-cancelling ear plugs on at the same time you have headphones on playing Boards of hearing music while being at a Four Seasons lobby really high on E. Love everything Loscil does, and this early work is some of his best fer sure. Scott Morgan. Язык: Русский. Страна: США. Submers is an album by Canadian musician Scott Morgan under the alias of Loscil. It was released in 2002 by Kranky. Large portions of the music on Submbers was from classical music that had been sampled and distorted by Morgan. With Submers, Vancouver-based artist Loscil Scott Morgan practices the art of the aural womb. This is music without sharp edges. The synth textures are warm, deep and viscous as amniotic fluid, and like Wolfgang Voigt's legendary Gas project, Loscil knows that you can't live inside the body of another without hearing a distant heartbeat. In additional to sounding a bit like Gas, Loscil also reminds me of Japanese ambient collective Neina in his focus on textures so complicated and detailed they can pass for nature. The drones in Argonaut I are piled at least four layers high, enough to get lost in, as a glowing edge of higher pitched sound twists around something deeper and harder to fathom. Clearly a producer with an unapologetic love for the conceptual, Scott Morgan's second album for Kranky as Loscil takes on an aquatic theme - each track is named after a submarine. However, not a whole lot has changed in Morgan's approach from his debut. These tracks sound only a little more aqueous than the ones on Triple Point, continuing to carry wide-open spatial qualities, with the odd hint of dub occasionally thrown in for variation with its lathery suds of dubspace, Le Plongeur rivals Rhythm & Sound's best work. Repress of the cd, too, if you're into that sort of thing. Plus, if you buy the vinyl at Bandcamp for a dollar more than the Kranky site, you'll get a digital download in whatever formats you want. No download with the vinyl otherwise. This is an album that really deserves a rich, warm double vinyl press. A download for the car/boombox/alarm clock is the icing on the cake. Dreams really can come true!

This would be amazing on vinyl. Please Kranky, this and Triple Point!

This is one of the best ambient and concept albums I have ever heard. Loscil explores watery, deep depths with slow sonic drones and light beats sprinkled on top. The submarines on this album are exploring uninhabited, probably uncharted waters. An album about submarines could easily sound claustrophobic, from taking a viewpoint of the submarines themselves, but this sounds sprawling and unbelievably vast, as if it's the soundtrack to the landscapes they're exploring. The album sounds very desolate though, both in mood and actual sounds present. There are no melodies on this album, and the scarce beats that are used never even hint at becoming something more, though "Mute" and "Diable Marin" are almost asking for one. This is as ambient as it gets, and it can easily stack against other ambient masterpieces, such as SAWII.

Loscil's second album on the Kranky label, is a journey into supremely deep ambience. With minimal 4/4 beats, echoing chords and aquatic sounscapes, it's no wonder all the tracks are named after submarines. Fans of Gas, Pan American, Signer, and the Chain Reaction label would do well to hunt down this disc. Stunning.

A very deep and good album. Reminds me of pan american. So the ones who enjoy the sound of Mark Nelson (Pan American) should get this one, too. Btw every track of this album is named after a submarine:)
