Zappa states on this release: The words to the songs on this album were scientifically prepared from a random series of syllables, dreams, neuroses & private jokes that nobody except members of the band ever laugh at, and other irrelevant material. Uncle Meat is the fifth studio album by the Mothers of Invention, released as a double album in 1969. Uncle Meat was originally developed as a part of No Commercial Potential, a project which spawned three other albums sharing a conceptual connection: We're Only in It for the Money, Lumpy Gravy and Cruising with Ruben & the Jets. The album also served as a soundtrack album to a proposed science fiction film which would not be completed, though a direct-to-video film containing test footage from the. Just three years into their recording career, the Mothers of Invention released their second double album, Uncle Meat, which began life as the largely instrumental soundtrack to an unfinished film. It's essentially a transitional work, but it's a fascinating one, showcasing Frank Zappa's ever-increasing compositional dexterity and the Mothers' emerging instrumental prowess. Uncle Meat. The music on this album was recorded over a period of about 5 months from October 1967 to February 1968. Things that sound like a full orchestra were carefully assembled, track by track through a procedure known as over-dubbing. Uncle Meat was the last studio album released while The Mothers of Invention were still together as a band, well at least it was recorded while they were a band. Zappa would release Weasel Ripped My Flesh and Burnt Weeny Sandwich after the band was disbanded. In true Zappa style the songs donīt neccessarely come from the same session but he always makes them fit into the concept of the album anyway. Uncle Meat is one of the most unique Zappa albums and itīs also a very unique album in the history of rock music. blending his rīnīb doo woop influences with baroque and modern avant garde classic. Uncle Meat was the second two-album set from the Mothers, and very different from the first. The first, Freak Out, was also the group's debut effort. The two disks broke out very neatly the first was a collection of songs structured along traditional lines featuring decidedly non-traditional themes and lyrics. The second, which got very little airplay, was much more experimental, foreshadowing inspired lunacy to come.
